Our Mission & Values

At Blue River Counseling and Wellness, our mission is guided by a set of core values that reflect our commitment to holistic well-being, authenticity, and growth. These values shape how we interact with our clients, colleagues, and community. Here's what we stand for:

1. Embracing Abundance

We believe there is more than enough in this world for everyone. We are dedicated to creating a supportive environment where everyone can tap into the abundance of resources available for personal development. We believe when we work for the mental and emotional wellness of all, we work toward the health of the one.

How We Practice This:

  • Foster Collaborative Connections: Build networks with other professionals and community members to enhance access to support and information.

  • Share Resources Freely: Connect individuals to materials, education, workshops, and community resources to support mental health and personal development.

  • Affordable Services: Offer sliding scale services to clients in need whenever possible and to price services in a way that may increase accessibility.

2. Radical Authenticity

We are committed to being genuine and transparent in all of our intentions. We embrace our full selves - our strengths, vulnerabilities, and imperfections - and we encourage our clients and staff to do the same.

How we practice this:

  • Celebrate Individuality: Recognize and affirm the unique experiences and perspectives of each person we work with, regardless of sexual identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, spirituality, or age.

  • Informed Consent and Collaboration: Ensure clients have the opportunity to fully know their clinician's background and training, their understanding of the client's diagnoses, treatment plan, and other options for support.

  • Encourage Open Communication and Collaboration: Create a safe space where clients and clinicians can express themselves honestly and openly, using collaboration and teamwork to reach goals.

  • Model Vulnerability: Lead by example in showing that it is okay to be imperfect and grow from our experiences.

3. Restorative Living

We believe rest and self-care are essential for mental and emotional well-being. We view these practices as vital components of a healthy life, not as luxuries. We promote a balanced approach to well-being that honors both the body and mind, for our clinicians and our clients.

How We Practice This:

  • Scheduled Downtime: Encourage and support clinicians in taking time off for self-care and encouraging clients to take intentional "vacations" from therapeutic work, to nurture and nourish their souls outside of therapy, and to return to therapeutic work rejuvenated and with fresh perspectives.

  • Support Healthy Boundaries: Encourage clients and clinicians to set boundaries for work-life balance and self-care, including limiting technological communication outside of work hours, and honor the professional relationship between client and clinician.

  • Promote Mindfulness Practices: Integrate mindfulness and self-care rituals into our services and daily routines.

4. Creative Innovation

We believe in the power of creativity to inspire growth and transformation. We approach challenges with an open mind, exploring new ideas and methods to provide mental health support. We embrace the process of innovation and encourage creativity in both our practices and interactions.

How We Practice This:

  • Explore New Approaches: Continuously seek out and implement innovative techniques and solutions for mental health care through professional training and reviewing new research.

  • Encourage Creative Thinking: Foster an environment where new ideas are welcomed and explored in therapy.

  • Embrace Ambiguity: Approach uncertainties as opportunities for exploration and growth rather than obstacles.
